Discipline Leads
As a collaborative partnership across five acute Trusts of SYB, our discipline-led structure aims to deliver the best and most equitable outcomes for our staff and patients. This includes career opportunities and access to training, education and technology, and the continuous development of a sustainable shared service. Our discipline leads have decades of experience in their chosen pathology careers and are true experts in delivering a patient-centred service.
William Worboys, blood sciences (automated) discipline lead. Will qualified as a BMS in biochemistry at Barnsley Hospital, where he worked for 15 years. He moved to SYBP from being head of pathology systems and interoperability at West Yorkshire and Harrogate Pathology Network.
Dean Tazzyman, blood sciences (specialist) discipline lead. Dean began as a trainee in immunology in 2002, and after completing the logbook, moved to chemistry in 2003, before heading up Sheffield Laboratory Medicine.
Mike Leng, microbiology discipline lead. Michael has worked in microbiology for over 22 years. He worked at Barnsley Hospital before moving to Doncaster and becoming head BMS in microbiology.
Annette Davis-Green, histopathology discipline lead. Annette has been Barnsley and Rotherham Integrated Laboratory Systems manager for nine years and has worked in pathology for 34 years.
Phil Craddock Jones, paediatrics discipline lead. Phil has been a laboratory manager at Sheffield Children’s Hospital since 2014 and has worked as a biomedical scientist in the NHS for 25 years.
